The United States continues to face an epidemic of violence and harm involving guns. Communities across our region have not been spared. Most recently, Minnesota experienced the school shooting at Annunciation and the political assassinations of Representative Hortman and her husband. Too often public debates around firearm use and misuse devolve into a standoff between personal rights and government control. This pattern fails to address the many ways that each of us can act to reduce gun-related violence and trauma in our homes, workplaces, schools, and communities.

Safer Together: A Regional Conversation on Gun Violence

Join people from across eight ELCA synods for the launch of Safer Together, a regional initiative creating space for learning, conversation, and faithful action around gun violence.

The evening will feature Dr. Jillian Peterson, presenting “Peace Making in an Epidemic of Gun Violence,” followed by Q&A and guided conversation grounded in ELCA teaching.

Participants are encouraged to gather with others at one of our regional gathering sites, where there will be opportunities for conversation and discussion. Those unable to attend a gathering site are also welcome to participate individually via Zoom.
